Freshwater Fishing Begins Here:
Two free boat ramps within the City and Pocomoke River State Park just outside the city make Pocomoke City the place to go for freshwater fishing in Worcester County. The Pocomoke River is known for bass, pickerel, gar, and numerous other species. Bring your pole and fish without a license at any municipal dock along our waterfront. |

History
Settled in the 1600s on the banks of the Pocomoke River, the town has been called by many names through out the centuries, beginning with Stevens Ferry, Warehouse Landing, and Newtowne. The name of Pocomoke City was adopted in 1878, at which time Dr. Issac Costen was elected to serve as its first mayor.
Shipbuilding was the largest enterprise from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. Tull Shipyards, on the banks of the river near downtown, built some 200 vessels from the luxury oceangoing schooners to steamships.
Space Technology
Pocomoke City is Ground Zero for Space Technology Firms. Flying under the radar for a number of years has been the potential space-based technology industry coming to Pocomoke City in concert with the launch capabilities of Wallops Island - the Mid-Atlantic Institute for Space and Technology(MIST). The MIST mission is to develop technology, create opportunities in higher education and develop a national industrial base on the Eastern Shore, in support of that joint strategic objective.
